My kids like to dance. When I was pregnant with Myla, Nick bought an electric piano for our home. It came with a bunch of songs pre-programmed into it. And that has turned out to be just great because whenever I try to sit down and actually play the piano, the next thing I know, I have two super-adorable but super-unhelpful piano playing assistants on the bench and my lap and I can't get 4 straight notes out.
But they love the music! The pre-programmed music. Myla will turn a tune on and then they are in the living room, running around the ottoman laughing. "Turkish March" was their favorite for the longest time. "Mommy please play number 14! 14 ! 14!" Or, Myla will do a very serious interpretive ballet number depending on the tone of the piece that is playing. "Moonlight Sonata" is pretty fun to watch. Gavan mainly sticks to running around the ottoman or spinning in circles. The circles are a realtively new development and its cute to see him deal with dizziness. Myla has picked up the circles and the other night, after going around and around for awhile stopped, stared at the wall, and said, "Papa, is the house moving??"
Myla has a couple of DVD about this mouse that is a ballerina. At the end of each DVD, there is a short segment about a real children's ballet class and they show moves and such. Myla really likes that and has started to show me some of the moves and associated names. "Promenade, Mommy." After the folk dance segment "These are Half-breaks Mommy" all said with an English accent because the DVD is narrated by someone with an English accent. Its sweet :)
