Its taken me a little more than a week to get down to the computer and download the pictures of our newest family member - Nellie Ivy Cournoyer was born on Wednesday June 17th at 7:52 pm. We just love her! She looks a lot like Myla did when she was a newborn.
Here is the quick version of how the delivery went:
I started having contractions very early Wednesday morning - they started around 1am and continued until 4am. They stayed about 10 minutes apart and then they just calmed down and stopped. So, we got up in the morning and I sent Nick off to work telling him that there were plenty of people in the neighborhood that I could call should I need help. The contractions started up again around 9 or 10 am and were coming 10 minutes apart. My doctor had told me that if I was having contractions 10 minutes apart that I could go to the hospital.
With my other two kids, my water broke so there was no question whether or not was going to have the baby that day. This whole contraction thing was different for me - and I really did not want to get sent home from the hospital.
I let the contractions continue for about a hour and then called Nick and had him come home. We got the kids loaded up in the truck and took them to my parents' house - the whole while me worrying that I would get sent home from the hospital! I was pretty eager to have this baby - and have her early.
We got to the hospital at 1pm and they hooked me up to monitors and watched for an hour. I was consistently 10 minutes, no increase or decrease. So, they called my doctor to see what to do. I think I was lucky that when we got there the maternity triage was basically empty because the nurse came back into our room and said, with a smile, "Do you want to have a baby today??" Oh yeah!! Thank you Dr. Linstrom for letting me stay! They nurse even commented that we had a really easy-going doctor :)
It was 2pm at this point so they had me walk the hospital for an hour to see if it would kick things up - but it didn't. So, at 4pm I started pitocin and by 7:30 I was a 10 and the baby was +2 so it was time to go! Six contractions later, I was holding the newest Cournoyer - Nellie Ivy :) And she was/is just wonderful and we are so happy to have her!
Here are the pictures - enjoy!
Me waiting for things to get interesting
