We have lived in our house for almost 7 years. And in that time, we have talked a lot about planting a garden. Our backyard hasn't been the best place for one though - we have a big dog, lots of pavers and a camper and shed that take up a lot of room back there. So - since the backyard wouldn't work - why not the front yard? We had some "wasted"space to the side of our house so that's where we decided to put our little garden. This is our first attempt so we are really hopeful that it will work!
Nick cleared out the gravel, tilled in some garden-mix soil and got it all set up for us. We planted a hedge around it too so it would look a little better from the street. Check out sassy Miss Myla posing by it:

Our little garden plot after Nick got the rows set up, the watering system down and the hedges planted around it to give it a border.

This is after the seeds were planted and the herbs were transplanted. We have chives, cilantro, parsley and thai basil at the end of a few rows.
Myla loves to hold her little sister (this was during the week)
So, after about 9 days, these are the peas! We are excited. If they keep growing, we'll have to put up a trellis for them to climb.
Here is the spinach (which I doubt you can see), romaine, turnips (which again I think are too small to see) and the peas in the back. This is encouraging after a little more than a week of growing time.

Good luck that sounds like a ton of fun (and work) :) You'll have to let us know how it goes.
A garden??!! How fun! Looks like the kiddos were all good garden helpers, too!!! They sure are growing fast! We need to come meet miss Nellie some time; she is too cute!!!
What a great way to use up your huge front side yard! Congrats on getting it to grow!
